Where does hazing occur? Hazing occurs in middle school and high schools, as well as in colleges, the military and on the job. It occurs all over the United States and throughout the world.
This site is an adaptation from our partners at Cornell University. Hazing takes various forms, but typically involves physical risks or mental distress through, for example, humiliating, intimidating, or demeaning actvities.

Hazing is defined as the imposition of strenuous, often humiliating, tasks as part of a program or initiation. Hazing, often thought of as harmless, can cause long-lasting physical and emotional distress. It can occur within sororities, fraternities, schools, athletic organizations, and clubs. Most people who have been hazed will never report it out of fear or embarrassment. Most importantly, the effects of hazing can be deadly. Hazing is preventable when people are educated.
